Multilingual content strategy: transcreation, culturalization, regionalization and origination

Global-Ready-First Adaptive Strategy

How do we pivot the corporate culture to an adaptive global-ready-first strategy in platform, product, and people? How do we keep the Human factor in the value-prop equation?
The traditional linear, manual, functionally siloed, US-first workflows cannot survive in the post-pandemic global world. Winning companies are those who are able to “hit the ground running,” with adaptive, simultaneous, instant deploys in new markets at scale. Circular, automated, horizontal, cross-functional integrations for scaling global growth is the name of the game in the new era. We'll discuss how to achieve that with a clear vision for building diversified value experiences for the diverse populations of the world!

CQ: Cultural Intelligence (presentation with interactive workshop)

Struggle to work effectively with your colleagues in “name-that-country”? Unsure why decisions aren’t made in a linear flow? Unable to figure out why your customers in Germany use your product differently from your customers in Canada? Join us as we practice and discuss some scenarios that will provide tips to succeed in global environments while staying true to your brand identity.

Session #2

Sultan Ghaznawi.jpeg
Sebastian Stüker.jpg

Multilingual Speech to Text Transcription (co-presentation)

Natural language processing (NLP) is traditionally associated with text based content, but human language is primarily in speech form. NLP has made significant strides with speech based models. Subfields of NLP such as natural language understanding (NLU) and Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) that form the basis for understanding human speech rely on large scale natural speech data to develop the intelligence required for building successful speech capabilities. The challenge of sourcing the natural speech data, across multiple languages, environments, frequencies and transcribing the audio into text with annotation, prevents many companies from developing speech applications. Sultan and Sebastian will discuss efficient ways for speech data collection and transcription and what additional NLP capabilities can be combined to build new and innovative solutions for different industries.

Global-Ready Next-Gen Tools & Process

Global companies repeatedly sell into new markets, but are they getting maximum penetration into each market they’re targeting? The marketing and ecommerce teams need to work closely together not only to fast-follow launches with new website and product content translated into the language(s) of the new market, but also to effectively use Language Selection Tools, Structured Data and search results in web and mobile applications. In this session, Lionbridge CMO, Jaime Punishill will demonstrate the importance of shifting the conversation away from localization & content quality to optimization, ROI, & content performance

Session #2

Technology in localization: machine translation and beyond

Machine translation profoundly impacts the work and capabilities of translators, most importantly by emphasizing post-editing. However, its current use brings shortcomings which are not all solved by technical progress. In addition, technology is at play in many more aspects of the localization process than just translation, from quality control to localization analytics. These are the premises from which to fuel our conversation on the role of technology in localization.

Session #3

Global Typography (co-presentation)

Multilingual typography, once considered to be one of the Achilles’ heels of localization, has been transformed in the past 30 years. From various code pages to the marvelous Unicode and Code2000 to ubiquitous web fonts, multilingual access has now become a reality because of those advances. We have only scratched the surface in how to design for multilingual experiences within creative applications. How can we design a scalable UX solution that meets the cultural needs of our non US users? Michelle and Jost will look at those developments and discuss what is still missing. They will also share interesting stories about approaching multilingual typography from a UX perspective, fonts, characters and their meaning.

Optimized localization management for efficient global launches

Filip Klepacki will share best practices on optimizing the workflow for complex multilingual localization projects, where the source content is rapidly updated on the go, and how Machine Translation integrations can make that workflow even more efficient. Learn more about solutions to enable smart project management for scaling cost-savings and time to market on your lion’s share revenue.
